Aesthetic Components of a Smile Makeover

A smile makeover can vary depending on what you like or dislike about your smile and teeth. Before we decide on any cosmetic procedures, we will take into consideration certain aesthetic components, such as your facial appearance, gum tissues, lips, teeth appearance, and skin tone. Some features of your smile we can improve with a smile makeover include:
•  Alignment and Spacing. A smile makeover can fix teeth that are overlapping, gapped, crooked or rotated. Alignment and spacing issues may require the use of orthodontic treatment, such as ClearCorrect.
•  Tooth Color. There are many factors that can negatively affect the color of your teeth. During a smile makeover, we will address the shade of your teeth with various procedures, such as porcelain veneers, crowns, bridges, composite bonding, or professional teeth whitening. We will make a careful evaluation of your teeth, face, and hair to find the right balance between a brighter, whiter smile and a natural appearance.
•  Missing Teeth. Missing teeth can be an embarrassing and uncomfortable situation. We offer several ways to replace missing teeth, some of which include bridges and dental implants. If you are missing one or more teeth, replacement treatment is a crucial part of your oral and overall health.

During the treatment planning for your smile makeover, we may also address your tooth length, smile line, and tooth proportions. The length of your teeth can lead to a more youthful appearance. We may recommend an aesthetic gum lift to lengthen the appearance of your crowns. The smile line follows the edge of your upper teeth and should match the curve of your lower lip. Your smile line will help us determine the position of your new teeth. The proportions of your teeth can also dictate the cosmetic procedures we choose to use.

Cosmetic Procedures Commonly Used

During the treatment planning process, Dr. Daniel A. Riley may suggest several cosmetic procedures, some of which include:
•  Dental Veneers. Dental veneers are thin porcelain shells that we permanently bond to the front surface of your teeth. Veneers can be used to fix teeth that are discolored, chipped, cracked, or abnormally shaped. Veneers are a conservative alternative to dental crowns.
•  Dental Crowns. A dental crown fits over the entire surface of your tooth and can improve the cosmetics and structure of a damaged tooth. To receive a crown, your tooth must be completely reshaped, which is why we must be absolutely certain a dental crown is right for you.
•  Composite Bonding. Composite bonding involves the use of resin composite, a putty-like substance that can be shaped and textured to resemble natural enamel. We suggest composite bonding to fix minor chips, cracks, discolorations, and instances of decay.
•  Dental Implants. A dental implant is a small titanium screw that mimics the root component of a missing tooth. Implants can be used to support a single crown, fixed bridge, or complete denture.
•  Teeth Whitening. A professional teeth whitening procedure can brighten your teeth by up to eight shades! Store-bought products, such as gels and strips, can be much less effective.
