Same Day Crowns
A traditional dental crown entails a long process that can take weeks or even months to complete. Until recently, this process was the only way for patients to save a badly damaged or decayed tooth from extraction. New technology and techniques have led to same day dental crowns! At New Heights Dental & Braces, we offer same day dental crowns to save you time, money, and the usual inconveniences associated with dental crowns.
Same Day Technology
Without new technology, same day dental crowns would not be possible. We use the amazing E4D Dentist, a milling machine that utilizes CAD/CAM technology to create your dental crown in a matter of minutes. CAD/CAM or Computer-aided design/Computer-aided manufacturing has revolutionized the dental industry.
The E4D Dentist comes equipped with an intraoral camera attached to an instrument that resembles a wand. We use this wand to take a series of pictures and images that the CAD software transforms into a 3-D representation of your teeth.
The milling unit uses this representation to mold a ceramic crown from a predetermined porcelain block. The block we choose will best match the current shade of existing teeth. Our E4D milling machine allows us to complete complex restorative dental care within a couple of hours, rather than several appointments.
Same Day Crown Process
To receive the same day dental crown, Dr. Daniel A. Riley must first determine it is the appropriate treatment method. Your comprehensive exam will be a visual and physical assessment of your teeth and gum tissues. This may also include x-rays or a 3-D CT scan to get a better view of decay and damage.
Once we have determined that the same day crown is right for you, we can schedule your appointment. During your appointment, we will administer local anesthetic to numb the area. Next, we will use a small file to remove a portion of your enamel and reshape your tooth. After the tooth is reshaped, we will use the E4D wand to take a digital impression of your tooth. We use this impression to create a 3-D model of your new crown.
Once we are satisfied with the shape, the information will be wirelessly sent to our milling machine. In a matter of minutes, our milling machine will produce a new crown that is virtually indistinguishable from a natural tooth. Next, we will place the crown over the tooth and check the margins. After we have achieved the perfect fit, we will permanently cement the crown to your tooth. The crown will also be polished to create a more realistic appearance.
The Benefits of Same Day Crowns
Same day dental crowns have some benefits over traditional crowns. Traditional dental crowns can take several visits to complete, and often require the use of a temporary crown. With same day crowns, we can complete the entire procedure without you having to leave the dental chair. Not only does this save you time, but it also saves you money. Same-day crowns last longer but are roughly the same price as a traditional dental crown. They also involve digital impressions, which are much more comfortable than the goopy impression material used to create traditional crowns.
